TREASURE MADNESS - IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MARCO POLO

In 1271, Marco Polo left Venice with his father and uncle to undertake a long journey to the Far East. As merchants and ambassadors, the three Italian merchants wanted to reach Shangdu to meet Kubilai Khan, the Mongolian emperor. After a trek of 3 years, the explorers were received at the Mongolian court and came under the Khan's orders. Marco Polo became an adviser to the prince, investigator, inspector of Finance, military councilor and ambassador of the imperial palace of China. For 16 years, he traveled into the Middle Empire for Kubilai Khan but finally returned to Venice in 1295. During a conflict between Venice and Genoa he was captured by the Genoese. It's in prison that he dictated his memoirs to his companion Rustichello of Pisa. His memoirs, the book “The marvels of the world”, was a considerable success for Europeans wishing to discover Asia! Released in 1299, Marco Polo’s life ended in his hometown where he takes up his business as a merchant again until his death in 1324.
